Vladimir A. Cortez, DO, FACS is a board certified, fellowship trained neurological and neurointerventional surgeon. He is fellowship trained in endovascular neuroradiology, neurointerventional and cerebrovascular surgery. Dr. Cortez joined the Institute of Clinical Orthopedics and Neurosciences at Desert Regional Medical Center in June 2014 and serves as Interim Director of Neurointerventional Surgery.

Dr. Cortez earned his degree in osteopathic medicine from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He conducted his surgical internship at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was named Neurosurgery Chief Resident his senior year. He also conducted his fellowship training in endovascular neuroradiology, neurointerventional and cerebrovascular surgery at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center which included rotations at Desert Regional Medical Center, Riverside County Regional Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente Fontana and Redlands Community Hospital.

Prior to attending college, Dr. Cortez served in the United States Navy for five years.

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Additionally, he is an affiliate member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the California Association of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Skull Base Society, Society of Vascular and International Neurology and the Neurocritical Care Society.

Dr. Cortez also serves as an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurointerventional Surgery at Desert Regional Medical Center, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Riverside County Regional Medical Center, and Redlands Community Hospital as well as at Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has authored numerous publications and given many presentations on his specialty.
